The group filter slowly into the space... surrounding the space, they cling to the walls, waiting anxiously for the group leader...she paces, also anxious, at the centre of the group... surrounded, she explains the hierarchy... they listen carefully... their cultural survival depends on their ability to process this information quickly, to understand... to know their place... to know your place... she flushes... red... they laugh nervously... she is stunned into silence... they wait... she is telling them of wild things... of animals... of the closing distance between one cell and another... its all in the genetics...becoming animal... she now seeks their help... the time is important...tasks are important... the group establish a bond with their leader... with one another... she has become subtle at manipulation... she gestures to me... she explains the british institution of wildlife... wild life... she gestures to them, and offers each a task.. photographer... time keeper... witness... she is agitated... the group will need to move much faster if their survival is to be assured... the group divides into small groups... task forces... they unfold the greenery... inflate balloons... the males of the group quickly establish themselves as creators of this new habitat... those more nervous, stay back and choose to watch... their hesitation is costly... he walks across the space and slips on an unfolding patch of paper turf... he moves around the edges of the space and peers over my shoulder at the screen... cautious and respectful of distance... the group gather different materials, tracing their own movements with cameras, mobile phones... the leader now begins to flatter a lone male... his ego and the rules of the group permit him to respond accordingly to her requests... he takes up his role and centre piece of the re-enactment... the leader looks for a new queen.... the group uses all of the available material to hand to begin building a nest... torn paper... corrugated card... old newspapers.. an ongoing process of negotiation through which the young come to understand their tasks... the group trample one another in their eagerness... the male is unsure of his position.... unfazed by flashes of light, the group members pose for shots... tools are lost in the foray and frantic activity... they laugh... again, the less experienced members of the group retreat to the walls to watch their colleagues... she is behind me now... she has a knife... she prepares food for the young and offers it to the new family... she continues to offer directives... they are weaker than she would like... the group are uncertain, seeking her approval, they lack confidence in their abilities... the group begin to show signs of stress and discomfort, questioning their safety... they pose for photographs - less focused on the task at hand but hungry for the attention... 4 minutes remaining... the group hold their positions... final instructions from their leader, before the last photographs are taken.... 2 minutes remaining.. the task is complete... the group applaud...
